Description
The Duram Shower Recess Waterproofing Kit is designed to allow one to waterproof their shower recess to a professional standard which meets AS3740 (Waterproofing of Wet Area). Packed into 1 easy to carry box are all the ingredients that are needed.
The Duram Shower Recess Waterproofing Kit comprises of 4 litres of Durabit EF waterproofing membrane (refer to separate data sheet), reinforcing fabric for corners, primer, Duram Mastic for joins and 45o fillet,Leak Seal Tape,gloves,brushes and applicators as well as a step by step brochure.
This waterproofing kit has been enhanced with the inclusion of Duram Leak-Safe Tape which is a self stick, waterproof tape for corners making it even easier, quicker and giving you greater waterproofing protection. Important: It is important that you follow the instructions contained in the Duram Shower Recess Waterproofing Kit. Further, the membrane must be applied at the correct thickness.
Uses
For the waterproofing of a single, standard shower recess of approximately 0.9m x 0.9m and three walls.
• For larger areas Duram supplies Durabit EF in 1, 4, 20 litre containers and all accessories separately.
• Recommendation: Whilst purchasing The Duram Shower Recess Waterproofing Kit, purchase 1 or 2 cartridges of a construction grade polyurethane sealant to seal gaps, holes, joins and corners.
Suitable Surfaces
Suitable for most common building substrates such as concrete, compressed fibre board, treated marine plywood, brick, render and plaster board.
Caution: For particle board or chip board surfaces, do not prime with the primer included in the kit. These must be primed with two coats of Duram Primeseal before waterproofing.
Specification
The information contained in this product data sheet is typical but does not constitute a full specification as conditions and specific requirements may vary from project to project. The instructions should be considered as a minimum requirement but the applicator or contractor must use their skill, knowledge and experience to carry out additional works as may be necessary to meet the requirements of the project. Specification for specific projects should be sought from the Company in writing.
Limitations
If floor is chip board or particle board, do not use the primer supplied in the kit. These surfaces must be primed with two coats of Duram Primeseal prior to applying the Durabit EF waterproofing membrane.

Precautions in Use
The product is considered safe to apply but common sense must prevail. Use gloves and protect eyes from splashes.
Priming and Surface Preparation
Good preparation is essential. Surfaces must be sound, stable, dry, clean and free of dust, loose, flaking, friable material and substances that may diminish adhesion.

Coverage
The stated average coverage rate may vary depending upon type, condition, porosity, texture of the surface and application technique.
The following minimum usage of the products are:
• Primer: 1 litre covers 4m² - usually applied in single coat.
• Durabit EF: 0.75 litres covers 1.0m² per coat - applied in a minimum of 2 coats. Total minimum coverage for 2 coats is 1.5 litres per m².
• Allow membrane to fully dry and cure before tiling or topping.
Drying and Curing
Drying and curing of the product is affected by type, dryness and porosity of the surface, temperature, humidity, ventilation, climate conditions and application technique and therefore drying and curing can only be given as a guide.
Allowing the membrane to fully cure is essential. Recommendation: In good drying conditions allow 24 hours between coats and a further 3 to 7 days before tiling.
Storage
Store in cool dry areas , out of direct sunlight.
Clean Up
Wet spills can be cleaned with water. Spills should be avoided and is difficult to clean out of carpet. Ensure product does not enter drains or waterways.
Tiling, Topping or Top Coating
After fully curing, the area can be topped with a sand/cement topping or directly tiled. 2 pack type tile adhesives (sand/ cement powder and polymer) are recommended.
