Maxi-Trowel
Trowel-on Decorative Scratch Coat |
Description
MAXITROWEL is a premium, pigmented (or neutral), high performance, high build acrylic scratch coat incorporating special graded aggregates. MAXITROWEL is formulated for ease of application and patterning. The thickness and texture is controlled by the graded aggregates and is available in 1.5mm, 2 mm and 3 mm. Minimum quantities may apply. MAXITROWEL is applied by trowel and finished to the required pattern, usually vertical lines or random swirl over suitably primed surfaces. MAXITROWEL needs to be overcoated with SUPREME or MAXIFLEX (top coat) to give extra protection from weather conditions and to achieve a vibrant finish.
Uses
MAXITROWEL may be applied on primed internal and external walls. Due to its high build most substrate imperfections can be hidden or obscured.
Suitable Surfaces
Suitable for application on sound, primed off - form concrete, cement render, FC sheeting, Harditex sheeting(or similar), other concrete products and brick surfaces. Substrates and or joints may need to be prepared or skimmed with MAXIJOINT, MAXICRETE or MAXIPATCH .
Specification
The information contained in this product data sheet is typical but does not constitute a full specification as conditions and specific requirements may vary from project to project. The instructions should be considered as a minimum requirement but the applicator or contractor must use their skill, knowledge and experience to carry out additional works as may be necessary to meet the requirements of the project. Specification for specific projects should be sought from the Company in writing.
Limitations
Do not apply if rain or frost is imminent or possible before the product has properly dried. The product should not be subjected to hydrostatic pressure and excessive rising damp. Ambient temperature: Min. 10oC Max. 35oC Surface temperature: Min. 5oC Max. 50oC
Benefits and Advantages
Ease of application & patterning.
Excellent adhesion.
Excellent weathering & abrasion resistance.
Resistance to saponification under alkali conditions.
Allows surface to breathe.
Application safety, water based, non combustible.
High tensile strength.
Top coating is optional but highly recommended.
Precautions in Use
The product is safe to use if used properly. The use of gloves, goggles and coveralls is recommended while applying MAXITROWEL.
Priming and Surface Preparation
Good preparation is essential. Surfaces must be sound, stable, dry, clean and free of dust, loose, flaking, friable material and substances that may diminish adhesion.
Prime surface with MAXIPRIME. Allow to dry for approximately 4 hours before application of MAXITROWEL.
Cracks must be filled with suitable filler and finished flush accordance with good painting practice. A penetrating sealer may be required.
Application
Apply MAXITROWEL evenly over primed surface with a steel trowel as determined by the gauging stones. When product starts to set, pattern surface by rolling the gauging aggregate using a polystyrene float. When product has cured apply the top coat of either SUPREME or MAXIFLEX as recommended by the manufacturer but this is optional.
Application Experience
We recommend that the product is applied by person with the appropriate skills and experience for the type of product. The acceptability of the surface is the responsibility of the applicator.
Coverage
The stated average coverage rate may vary depending upon type, condition, porosity, texture of the surface and application technique.
The following approximate average spread rate per 15 litre pail applied is: 1.5 mm: 10 to 12 sq.m. 2.0 mm: 8 sq.m. 3.0 mm: 6 sq.m. This is a guide only and will depend on the information above.
Colours
Available in a wide range of colours, deep or dark colours make attract a tinting fee.
Colour Batches
Whilst care is taken to accurately colour match, batch to batch variations may occur for reasons which may be beyond our control. We strongly advise that project requirements are ordered in a single batch lot to avoid colour matching from batch to batch. Minimum quantities and tinting charges may apply.
Contractor Responsibility
It is the responsibility of the contractor or applicator to ensure that the colour is within specification prior to its application. The Company shall not be liable for any colour variations after the product has been applied. Further, the applicator should use product for touch-ups from the same batches used to do the original coats.
Drying and Curing
Drying and curing of the product is affected by type, dryness and porosity of the surface, temperature, humidity, ventilation, climate conditions and application technique and therefore drying and curing can only be given as a guide.
Touch Dry: 2 to 4 hours at 20oC. Hard Dry: 2 to 4 days.
Storage
Available in 4 and 15 Lt Pails. Shelf life: 6 to 12 months in unopened containers. Containers should be rotated to prevent settlement.
