Hessian Toro
Glove Applied Texture Coating |
Description
Hessian Toro is a coloured, pre-mixed, high building, bagging texture coating formulated to be applied by a gloved hand but can be readily applied by brush or roller. Hessian Toro provides a beautiful rustic 'spanish villa' style texture in a flat (low gloss) finish. Hessian Toro lends itself to the applicator being able to create exciting and varied textures from bold to subtle, from sweeping to staggered and from unstructured to uniform. The effect is stunning. Hessian Toro is designed to be applied directly to primed surfaces to obscure surface imperfections and irregularities to produce a visually marvelous look.
Uses
Internal and external texture wall coating for most building substrates.
Suitable Surfaces
Suitable for sound, stable, primed and correctly preapred: Off-form concrete. Cement. Cement render. Autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC blocks or panels). Primed Hebel panel. Brick work. Block work.. FC sheeting & Blue Board.
Specification
The information contained in this product data sheet is typical but does not constitute a full specification as conditions and specific requirements may vary from project to project. The instructions should be considered as a minimum requirement but the applicator or contractor must use their skill, knowledge and experience to carry out additional works as may be necessary to meet the requirements of the project. Specification for specific projects should be sought from the Company in writing.
Limitations
Avoid application outside the temperature range of 10oC to 30oC. Do not apply during rain, inclement weather or when rain is imminent. Although Hessian Toro can be applied to slightly damp surfaces they must become dry to enable it to fully cure. Do not apply product to excessively damp surfaces, i.e > 15% moisture or areas of weeping water. Not recommended for areas subject to hydrostatic pressure and rising damp.
Benefits and Advantages
Suitable for internal and external applications.
Ease of patterning to create special effect.
Does not need to be over-coated. The product is the final coat.
Contains adhesion promoting agents.
Pre - blended, ensuring application consistency.
Easy to apply - promotes better application speed and efficiency.
Has excellent weathering properties.
Safe and easy to use.
High build - hides surface imperfections.
Precautions in Use
Porous surfaces must be sealed with Duramax MaxiBond before applying MaxiRender F10. Product contains cement powder so protect skin and eyes and avoid breathng in the dust / powder prior to wetting. Areas subject to rising damp should be waterproofed with Duram Crystoflex, allowed to dry and primed with Duramax MaxiBond.
Priming and Surface Preparation
Good preparation is essential. Surfaces must be sound, stable, dry, clean and free of dust, loose, flaking, friable material and substances that may diminish adhesion.
Where required cleaning may include acid etching, sand or water blasting. The appropriate method is determinable by the applicator.
| Substrate |
Preparation |
| Concrete, tilt up panels, suspect surfaces, smooth surfaces & low porosity surfaces. |
An adequate key coat comprising by parts per volume: Maxibond 1 Water 4 Cement 4 Fine sand 2 Should be applied to entire surface by roller, spray or splatter gun. Allow to dry. Apply MaxiRender F10. |
| AAC Hebel or highly porous surfaces |
Apply an adequate seal or bond coat of Maxibond diluted 50 / 50 with clean water to entire surface. Allow to dry and apply MaxiRender F10. |
| Concrete block and brick surfaces |
Apply an adequate seal or bond coat of Maxibond diluted 50 / 50 with clean water to entire surface. Allow to tack off and apply MaxiRender F10. |
| FC Sheeting & Blue Board |
Jointing System The system comprises:
- Base Coat - MaxiJoint
- Mesh - Approx. 150mm wide.
- Topping Coat - MaxiCrete
Fill joints and allow to dry. Apply an adequate key coat to entire area by roller, spray or splatter gun comprising by parts per volume:
- Maxibond 1
- Water 4
- Cement 4
- Fine sand 2
Allow to dry. Dilute 1 part Maxibond with 8 parts clean water and use this liquid as the wetting agent for the MaxiRender F10. Note that over joints a 150mm wide mesh can be laminated between coats of MaxiRender F10. |
Note: The use of Maxibond as an add mixture to MaxiRender F10 will enhance adhesion to common substrates.
Application
Application is similar to standard cement renders.
- Slowly mix a 20kg bag (powder) into ± 4 litres of clean water and mechanically mix to a smooth and homogeneous consistency. Allow to stand for ± 5 minutes before adjusting consistency, if required.
- Apply using hawk and trowel or spray to achieve a thickness of 2mm to 6mm per single application.
- Allow to dry and reapply to desired thickness.
- Allow to partially set then finish with a polystyrene or wooden float or sponge to desired finish.
- Pot life is ± 1½ hours at 23ºC and 50%RH.
Application Experience
We recommend that the product is applied by person with the appropriate skills and experience for the type of product. The acceptability of the surface is the responsibility of the applicator.
Coverage
The stated average coverage rate may vary depending upon type, condition, porosity, texture of the surface and application technique.
Spread rates may vary depending upon type, condition, porosity, texture of the surface and application technique. 5 sq.m. per bag applied at 2mm thick on a smooth surface.
Colours
Product may be tinted in a wide range of colours but a tinting fee may be charged for deep or accent base colours.
Colour Batches
Whilst care is taken to accurately colour match, batch to batch variations may occur for reasons which may be beyond our control. We strongly advise that project requirements are ordered in a single batch lot to avoid colour matching from batch to batch. Minimum quantities and tinting charges may apply.
Contractor Responsibility
It is the responsibility of the contractor or applicator to ensure that the colour is within specification prior to its application. The Company shall not be liable for any colour variations after the product has been applied. Further, the applicator should use product for touch-ups from the same batches used to do the original coats.
Drying and Curing
Drying and curing of the product is affected by type, dryness and porosity of the surface, temperature, humidity, ventilation, climate conditions and application technique and therefore drying and curing can only be given as a guide.
Generally at 25*C @ 50%RH: Surface dry in about 4 hours. Full cure in 2 to 4 days. In good drying conditions texture coats can be applied after 2 days. In hot and windy conditions the re-wetting of the MaxiRender F10 surface will assist in good curing.
Storage
Approx. 6 months in unopened bags. Store in cool, dry areas. Protect from excess heat, frost, water and damage.
Clean Up
Water, if still wet. Shovel into suitable containers and dispose of in accordance to local council regulations.
Tiling, Topping or Top Coating
Suitable for texture coatings and paint.
Safety & Precautions
Refer precautions. If swallowed give glass of water and seek medical advice. If in eyes, flush thoroughly with clean water holding up eye lid to remove grit under lid. If on skin, remove contaminated clothing and wash skin with soap and water. If inhaled, unlikely after wetting due to its viscous nature, remove person to fresh air and apply artificial respiration if required and seek medical advice. If powder inhaled do likewise.
For full safety data refer to the products Material Safety Data Sheet. Observe precautions as per label.
